Dream a little dream of me.....

Another night, another dream:

Here we go! My Uncle Paul and Aunt Gael were going out to dinner. As they were going out the door,I suggested a wonderful restaurant that I had been to in the past. The dilemma: I just couldn't remember the name of it....AAaaaaaaahhhh!
Finally, after looking in a phone book to help jog my memory, it came to me. It was called, "The Crime Scene". Wow. What do they serve there? Nevermind, don't answer that one.

Okay, so as dreams do, this one changed scenes and I found myself riding a bike, going down a steep hill, at about 103 mph....Aaaaaahhhhh! And of course, I was being pursued by someone.

Actually, I am surprised that I was able to dream at all. I was awake for most of the night mulling over my latest project. Nope, can't tell what I am doing. You will all find out soon enough!

Happy Monday!

p.s. Congrats to a couple of future newlyweds! (one hour from now!)

Why eyebrows, you might ask? Read on!

I did a bit of research on this subject and found this.

The main function of the eyebrow is to prevent moisture, mostly salty sweat and rain, from flowing into the eye, an organ critical to sight.(yes, the last time I checked, the eye was an organ critical to sight....oy)
The typical curved shape of the eyebrow (with a slant on the side) and the direction in which eyebrow hairs are pointed, make sure that moisture has a tendency to flow sideways around the eyes, along the side of the head and along the nose. (Too bad Whoopee doesn't have any!) The slightly protruding brow ridges of modern humans (as compared to neanderthals?) could also still play a supporting role in this process. Together with the eyebrows, the brow ridges also shade the eyes from sunlight.
Eyebrows also prevent debris such as dandruff and other small objects from falling into the eyes, as well as providing a more sensitive sense for detecting objects being near the eye, like small insects. Eyebrows also have an important facilitative function in communication, strengthening expressions like surprise or anger. ~Wikipedia (with additions by Su)

Wow! Pretty informative, huh?!

So, now the big question that burns in my mind is: Why toenails?!

Let's face it: I'm boring.

Yes, it is true. I am totally boring. I have nothing exciting to report lately. I have been realizing that my life is very typical of the middle aged (yes, I said it) mom.

What does my day consist of? What is my daily routine? No, I can't report on it. You would be asleep before the first sentence...or you will most likely click away from my wildly exciting blog.

Are you still with me? Do you want to know how routine my life really is? Okay, here is an example:

In the past, when I would grocery shop, I added up money spent as I went through the store. I never knew when an impulse would hit me to buy something not on my list and I needed to stay within my weekly budget.
Now, however, I buy so much of the exact same thing every week, that I know when I get through checking out at the register, my total will definitely be around $200.00. (within a few dollars...) Is that boring or what? No tofu or thai food...and I have never even priced the sushi at the fish department. No, for me it's the usual 3lbs of hamburg and the chicken breast on sale. The mundane coffee flavors and typical store brands of cereal, juice and pasta. (and it's spaghetti every time!) BORING! And this is just the grocery shopping part of my humdrum existence!.......................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........Huh? OH! I must have dozed off! Sorry!

Okay, my days aren't completely monotonous. I do have the occasional excitement. Let's see, today we took a day trip to the beach. We all got up at an unreasonable hour and after the usual moments of doubt (should we or shouldn't we?....gas expense, time in the car, will it rain?), we went! Was it fun? Well, it wasn't the best beach day, and the tide was way out, which means a LONG walk to the water and back...but, yes, it was very fun. I may have even got a slight tan, which isn't a priority for me, but it's nice to have a bit of a glow! And most important, the kids had a blast in the waves! I should've taken the camera...

And so, my boring post comes to a close. Thanks for reading to the end. Hopefully, I will have more excitement to post for my loyal readers (oy) in the very near future.

A mystery

A mysterious happening occurred here yesterday. To set the stage, here are a few details:

We built a very small pond for the garden. (when I say "we", I mean TacCom) It is about 2 feet deep and 18 inches wide. (very small) The actual pond is in a huge plastic planter that TacCom put into the hole he dug. Then he surrounded the top with some slate pavers. (so it is level with the ground) It has a pretty fountain for ambience. We added five goldfish and voila!

Here's the mystery:

Yesterday morning, as I went outside on the porch to say goodbye to TacCom, a strange sound coming from the pond pump attracted our attention. Glancing over, we saw that the pond was virtually empty, except for 3 inches of water on the bottom. Five sorry looking fish were making the best of a bad situation!
I immediately looked for a crack in the planter....nothing. My next thought: an animal tried getting the fish and splashed out the water...but, no foot prints. The only other evidence being that the fake turtle and one paver was knocked off kilter. (again, sounds like some kind of animal was the culprit...)
So, I got out a very small fish bowl and scooped out the fish, added what water was left from the pond and brought them inside for the kids to enjoy. (hoping, all the while, that I wasn't going to be hosting these fish inside for the duration of their lives!)
I refilled the pond, totally expecting the water to leak right back out again. (maybe I couldn't see a crack or hole?) But after an hour and a half, I decided the pot was sound. No leaking. So, the fish went home. (happily!)

What in the world could have caused the extensive loss of water? At least 5 gallons worth! And nothing has leaked since! It is a mystery, maybe never to be solved. Any ideas?

I hope you take the time to listen to the pure voice of Damian McGinty. He is gifted.

COME BY THE HILLS
(tune: Buchal an Eire )
Oh, come by the hills to the land where fancy is free.
Stand where the peaks meet the sky and the loughs meet the sea,
Where rivers run clear, bracken is gold in the sun;
Ah, the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.

Oh, come by the hills to the land where life is a song.
Stand where the birds fill the air with their joy all day long,
Where the trees sway in time, even the wind sings in tune;
Ah, the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.

Oh, come by the hills to the land where legend remains.
The stories of old fill the heart and may yet come again,
Where the past has been lost, the future is still to be won;
Ah, the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.

Oh, come by the hills to the land where fancy is free.
Stand where the peaks meet the sky and the loughs meet the sea,
Where rivers run clear, bracken is gold in the sun;
Ah, the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.

If you build it, and offer nectar....they will come.

Here is a video I took ten minutes ago. A male hummingbird is eating at our feeder over the pond that TacCom just built. All of a sudden, the hummingbird leaves the feeder and hovers near my head. You can hear his wings humming. I was wearing a red shirt at the time. Wonder if that was why he was so attracted to me?!

In the Kitchen with Jerry....

My all time favorite Jerry Lewis movie scene. This is priceless! Enjoy!
